Your iPhone or Mac May Lose Apple Repair Support in June

According to the internal documents obtained by 9to5mac, multiple iPhone and Mac models will be tagged as obsolete on June 9

According to the internal company documents obtained by the folks over at 9to5mac, Apple is about to axe support for multiple models of Macs, iPhone, and other products, as reported about Apple news. The Apple Care warranty will end as Apple purportedly plans to tag multiple models as “obsolete” this coming June and will stop providing support.

Once a device has been tagged as “obsolete” or vintage by the company, it will stop to provide services and repair facilities to users of those devices at its retail outlets, which are located in numerous locations across the world and operated by authorized service providers. The only exception to this rule are Apple Stores in Turkey or California, where if a device is marked as obsolete, the company still offer continued support. However, there’s no need to be alarmed, as Apple only adds 5-7 years old models to the list, which is more or less a lifetime in terms of tech devices. The list of devices with the vintage tag is maintained on the official website according to latest Apple news.

In addition to this, this year the original iPhone model will also finally loose its vintage tag in the United States. Apple previously tagged the device as obsolete in almost all the countries in 2013.

Quite a few Mac models are also going to be tagged as obsolete in June. These models include MacBook Pro (17-inch, Mid-2009), iMac (20-inch, mid 2007), and iMac (24-inch, mid 2007). If any of these products are brought in for repair or service in AP/CN/EU/JP/LA/US stores, Apple personnel will decline service of the devices. Same as the original iPhone, a few more devices are also losing their vintage status, after gaining the obsolete tag in 2013. These devices include Xserve (Late 2006), MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2.4/2.2GHZ), MacBook Pro (17-inch, 2.4GHZ) AirPort Express Base Station, and Xserve RAID (SFP, Late 2004).

The status change for all the aforementioned devices will officially happen on June 9, 2015. Although, Apple is axing repair support for these devices by Apple Stores or Resellers, the company will offer continued support over phone for customers who have signed up for the AppleCare service.

The complete list is includes iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS, along with the ones manufactured in China, along with original iPhone. As far as Macs are concerned, then these includes, MacBook Pro (17-inch, 2009), 2007 models of iMac- 20 and 24 inch. MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2.4/2.2GHZ) and MacBook Pro (17-inch, 2.4GHZ).

Apple Inc new MacBook 2015 is terribly hard to repair and iFixit has been annoyed by that.

The latest Apple news is about the review regarding the new MacBook reparability. There has been no secret regarding the fact that Apple does not consider anything when it comes to the device reparability on the basis of “do it yourself” phenomenon. However some of the devices belonging to the company such as iPhones, tablets are considered to be friendlier than the others. The latest MacBook that has been launched is said to be the decidedly on the unfriendly aspect of the scale. A company, iFixit has unveiled the step by step teardown, which is apparently exhaustive, of the new MacBook with almost visible frustration. According to the company, “It’s like they took note of iFixit’s reparability scale, and actually tried to hit zero.”

That shows how frustrated the iFixit team seems. The detailed teardown has been made available on the company’s website but it is not a pleasant read for anyone who is fond of replacing the broken hardware in the devices by themselves. The standard Apple features are retained in the new machine which includes the batteries that are glued down and etc. The entire machine has been designed using, “futuristic pegs and weird spring clips.”

Also there are some aspects where Apple has been complemented such as the motherboard is called “lovely” as the hardware designers at Apple had done a creative and mind boggling job when it comes to squeezing the entire apparatus in tiny chassis, as reported by Apple news. However all of the squeezing has come with a high cost. Cable connections that are fragile, cable routing which is odd and glue abound when it comes to its configuration.

The battery has faced some criticism as well; every battery cell has been glued down firmly, even the center one. The entire keyboard has accommodated 83 pentalobe screws for being screwed down, astonishingly. Also the individual key can relatively be replaced easily, but if you wish to replace the entire keyboard circuit board, welcome to the nightmare.

There is no RAM upgrade option, happening for a while now though. There is incredibly difficult to replace USB-C connector along with it.

One major reason for hard to replace hardware could be the company’s idea behind forcing the users deliberately to change the machines and devices every year or so in order to be updated. If the hardware becomes easily replaceable, what is the need of new MacBook anyway? This seems quite a strategy and maybe it hooks the end users to the company, however it can annoy a few techy users as well.

There have been many people who are using it and some of us are desperately waiting for the next announcements on iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus. The rumors regarding the release of S-series have begun to circulate already. It might be the case that iPhone 6S gets off-the-hook feedback from the people around.

The ‘S’ might be avoided if the company’s aim is to convince the users that they really need to upgrade their handsets. There might be a case that we see iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 plus instead of S series. We cannot be sure and will emphasize that these are merely rumors till Apple comes up with any announcement regarding the next launch.

As per the Apple news, 6S most likely will be similar to current models as far as the outward look is concerned, the upgrades will be interior. But we shouldn’t forget that Apple has surprised us many times in the past when it comes to design. They might be thinking to break the convention this time.
