Facebook Offers Suicide Prevention Service To Australia

Facebook has launched its suicide prevention service to save lives in Australia.

Facebook has taken a measure to save precious lives. The social networking organization has taken a significant measure to address suicide prevention issues in Australia, with its newly introduced initiative launched to address concerns regarding Australian users’ psychological health. The California based company stated it would now provide users “more resources, advice, and support for people who may be going through a difficult time”.
A number of new measures need to be taken. If a friend posts content on a user’s page that concerns them, the networking giant would let users report the posted material to a one-day support group. Insensitive terms such as unfriendly visuals, suggestive language, and eradications terms such as “lifeline” are to be eradicated as they play a role in implying crisis.
Facebook news exclaimed that a “Suicide Prevention Flow” provides its users a series of graphics and pages to ensure that their psychological state is calmed down, with links to communicate with anyone through message, phone, or email. Whereas worried friends would be persuaded to send a message to anyone regarding whom they are concerned, the enterprise would be filling pre-populated recommended text persuading their friend to receive help.
The feature was initially tested in the United States. In February collaborated with the US psychological health initiatives National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, ForeFront and Now Matters Now, whereas in the Australian region, the social media service provider is partnering with Beyond Blue and Headspace.
Facebook news today affirmed a spokesperson saying, “Keeping people safe is our most important responsibility on Facebook. We’re also providing new resources and support to the person who flagged the troubling post, including options for them to call or message their distressed friend letting them know they care, or reaching out to another friend or a trained professional at a suicide hotline for support.”
“Globally there are multiple millions of users all going through these same problems, People can be notified and help can be provided just about anywhere in Australia, which is fantastic,” stated CEO of Headspace Chris Tanti.
Information and Posts would be targeted in accordance to age groups, segregated between 13-24 years old (Beyond Blue) or towards 24+ years old. Facebook Breaking news reported that the proclamation has been made after the Facebook page of Sinead O’Connor was removed, after threating suicidal message were displayed on her networking account.
Suicide continues to be the leading cause of death for Australians who fall in the age group of 15-44, the company’s peak user base. Whereas this initiative depends on reporting pages, it is yet an encouraging measure with the enterprise earlier pinpointed as lacking answerability for its users’ psychological health and the matters surrounding bullying done through the internet.
