Ford Motor Company Receives Altair Enlighten Award for Innovation in Automotive Vehicle Lightweighting


The American vehicle maker receives an award for cutting down weight of its vehicles.
The American vehicle manufacturer, Ford Motor Company, has received an award. Ford news highlighted that the Center for Automotive Research and Altair have jointly awarded the Michigan-based organization, after it has been declared as the winner of the 3rd annual Altair Enlighten Award.
The enterprise has been rewarded for using various lightweight components that have minimized the weight of its 2015 Ford F-150. The Enlighten award is the vehicle manufacturing industry’s first prestigious award program designed specifically to recognize innovation in the field of vehicle weight reduction.
Ford was basically selected for cutting down the Ford F-150’s weight by 318 kilograms while enhancing its effectiveness, safety, and performance. To decrease the car’s weight, company’s engineering experts have incorporated upgraded materials into the entire structure of the truck, encompassing battery, power train, body, frame, and internal features, such as the seats.
The weight reduction has contributed to the effectiveness Ford’s vehicle, and the light weighted vehicle can now haul more, tow more, and contribute to the efficient utilization of the fuel. Ford breaking news exclaimed that Group’s Vice President, Global Product Development and Chief Technical officer, Raj Nair, has stated that as the truck leader of the largest economy in the world, Ford is honored to receive the award. He added that this award recognizes the efforts of its brilliant team members, who have built the best truck for its customers.
Additionally, the vehicle producer increased the use of high strength steel from 23% to 78%. By doing so, it improved the frame while decreasing its weight by 27kg. Ford’s truck developed a new standard for full-sized trucks by coupling enhanced capability and effectiveness, along with the latest smart vehicle technology.
Ford news today indicated that Vice President of Global Automotive at Atlair, Dave Mason, merrily congratulated Ford on receiving the Award. He added, “It's encouraging to see Ford implementing a holistic lightweighting strategy, which resulted in impressive weight savings that were incredibly significant to the judging panel.”
Industry professionals are of the view that the award would not only improve the reputation of the company but also send an alarming message to its rivals, who might be forced to follow its footsteps. The reward would definitely boost the motivation levels of the organization’s employees as well.
Ford’s management should maintain the superior level of quality and standard, and push itself ahead to cut the weight of their high-tech vehicles. This has already raised the bar for its rivals and the company itself.
