Satellite broadcaster, DirectTV had struck a deal with Disney and ESPN last year. This enabled the subscribers of the broadcaster an access to ABC, ESPN and Disney Channel content over an internet enabled device through DirectTV’s apps and website.
This includes live shows and video-on-demand. Users are now able to view their favorite movies or shown on the go on any mobile device. This is a part of Disney’s TV Everywhere service. The deal is a multi-year contract.
Subscribers have been able to access content since a month now. Channels included are Watch ABC Family WatchESPN and Watch Disney Channel. Other channels to be included to DirectTV’s internet content are EPSN3, Fusion, Buzzer Beater, Longhorn Network and Goal Line. It includes the live streaming of the ESPN Networks and also the latest episodes of the series being aired at ABC Family or ABC.
As per the chief content officer of DirectTV, Dan York: "It's an immense and exciting undertaking to work together to shape the future of content consumption and the possibilities are endless."
This contract has not also made both the companies more powerful but also has provided a broad range of content that is available for the viewers. This also highlights the fact that the viewers can access their favorite content on-the-go as well. The long list of services also includes re-introducing the ESPN Classic in the form of video-on-demand. Through this, users can view the classics and rewind the memorable favorites. WatchESPN is only a login away from the DirectTV’s customers. It provides access to live programming and on-demand clips. Users can easily access them through their apps as well, be it android, iTunes or Windows Store. This is definitely a beneficial joint venture by both the major companies as it brings more viewership and also a remote access to the channels and programs. Ease of access and more content is definitely a yes-factor for the viewers. This has clicked DirectTV and Disney in the right time.
